Despite uncertainty at the Federal Aviation Administration, the Santa Maria Public Airport Board of Directors has authorized General Manager Chris Hastert to move forward with grant applications and bid awards for the airport’s runway extension project.
The board voted unanimously to allow Hastert to apply for and accept an FAA Airport Improvement Project grant for the second phase of the project.
The board also approved awarding the second-phase construction contract to Granite Construction of Santa Maria. The company’s bid was the lowest, at $5.39 million, of the four local companies that submitted bids.
Hastert said the airport has 90 days to accept the bid, pending review of insurance and bonds.
